Day After Surgery...Life Throws Me A Loop

Morning After Surgery Shake
Sometimes life throws us a curveball, and all we can do is work our way through the challenge...That is my task starting today, the day after having surgery on my right shoulder and lower right arm/wrist.  Life in the land of the one armed king!  It does create some issues, adjustments and even some disappointments...and this is only day one.

Washing dishes is a whole new and humorous set of job skills.  First, you have to take all the dishes out of the sink and line them up on the counter to be washed one by one.  Washing a glass...I use the drain to hold glass while I do the inside of the glass, then carefully lay glass on its side and roll it around with the sponge to wash the outside.  Lay sponge down pick up the glass and rinse.  One pan, three glasses and two cups, wipe down the counter...25 minutes.

I need to get some fresh air and exercise, so weather permitting going to try a little walk tomorrow...that is pretty straight forward, but going to miss the familiarity of my camera slung over my shoulder at the ready.

Good or bad, when you only have one arm life SLOWS DOWN.  Driving is out, there is no jumping in the car to run a quick errand...you have to make lists of what you need, and then find friends who can help you out by running errands for you, or driving you around.  Things like making my morning shake and a pot of coffee take time...good news...you appreciate it more, savor it because of the effort it took to create it.  So enjoyed my morning Isagenix shake today, poured it into a more decorative and festive glass, added a small sprig of mint...it tasted even better than usual because it took me serious effort to make it.

Day one of this great adventure as I adjust to living life for awhile as a one armed man...tomorrow I am looking forward to learning how to shower...not sure, but may have to put on a different shower head, one that is not stationary...have a feeling by the time I figure it all out that the shower is going to be the most enjoyable shower I have ever taken.  In the mean time, this evening going to attempt my first one handed evening meal...Ed was kind enough last night to bring me in a home cooked meal from his kitchen...friends are beautiful to have.

Lost....Isalean Bar....Reward Offered For Safe Enjoyment

Old DeSoto...WOW
I woke this morning after the conclusion of  my "Isa Guru 9 Day Cleanse Challenge" in great spirits, anxious to enjoy my first Isalean shake after the two day Deep Cleanse that ended the challenge.  Looking out my window as I relished my shake, realized it was a perfect day for a walk...no; not just a walk, a jaunt...more than that, not quite a hike, maybe a half hike, sort of like someone who does a half marathon before participating in a full out marathon.  Beautiful billowy white clouds looking like marshmellow fluff floating acoss the intense blue sky, their bottoms a steely gray, as if they were thinking about, but had not yet made up their minds to be a storm.  The temperature almost balmy, especially for a day in the middle of January...you know the kind of a day it was, one of those rare days in the middle of winter when you can ditch the heavy winter coat, put on shorts and a thermal hoodie.  The kind of a day where you almost have a duty to get outside and frolic.
Finishing my Isalean shake, I was STOKED, convinced it was my duty to God and country to throw on some hiking shoes and go out for an adventure in the great outdoors...skipping my shower, I got right too the task at hand, getting dressed and gathering the necessary items for my great adventure...

Camera...check
Belt mounted lens case with zoon lens...check
Knit hat...check
Apartment keys...check
Realizing I was probably going to still be out scouting the countryside come lunch time, decided I should take one of my Isalean Bars with me...this was a special day, so grabbed one of my FAVORITES...the one sure to bring a smile to my face.
It was a beautiful day outside, I was anxious to head out, in a hurry...previous experience should have told me this was not wise, but come on, this WAS A PERFECT DAY!...it was as if Mother Nature herself was beckoning me to come commune with her.  So, checking my gear one last time I pulled the door shut on my apartment, descended the flight of stairs and stepped out onto Main street of our small wee hamlet to greet the sun shining down on me...yes, it was a PERFECT DAY for a half hike, something more than a walk, or a jaunt, a sojourn of sorts to be one with the earth.
I walked up the street, made a left onto Post Hill Road, made another left and headed up to our Rail Trail...always a good start for such an aventure, it's path through time providing numerous opportunities to head off in different directions with each eventually ending up at the same final destination.  I was a man with a plan...or perhaps a goal, or maybe I just wanted to take the day off and go out and enjoy such a beautiful day, a day that we do not often see in the midst of a cold, dark desolate winter...as I briskly strolled down the path...no, it was more than  a stroll, my stride had purpose and conviction to it.  It was a beautiful incredible January MONDAY, and I was blowing off work and going on a half hike.  As the Blue's Brothers would say, I was on a mission!
About two miles and a few pictures into this quest a challenge, or was it a canundrum arose...I was thirsty, in need of water.  I went through my various and assorted pockets...OMG...how could I have not remembered to put a bottle of water on my check list?
There was that brief moment, but then training and experience took over, my time in Boy Scouts and the Navy bringing two quick thoughts to mind...A) Don't panic, and B) Be prepared...have to love that Boy Scout Motto.  As these two thoughts were solidifying in my mind, up the trail on the left I spyed a ancient rock face with a sparking new crop of icecles inviting me to harvest one or two.  I quickly plucked and ate a couple of small ones, then grabbing a larger one in my gloved hand continued down the path my thirst quenched, a disasterious and quick end to my half hike avoided.
I hiked up and down hills, wondered off the trail scampering over slippery rocks to explore this and that, snapping a picture here, picking up an old broken bottle there to hold up to the sun as I admired the color and sparkle seen in the ancient, long discarded glass.  I veered to the left, meandered to the right, always in a round about way heading in the right direction, not a care in the world.
Somewhere around 1:30 in the afternoon judging by the position of the sun, I realized all this physical excertion had me feeling in need of sustinance.  It was at almost this precise moment of mental clarity that my steps had brought me to the edge of a small babbling stream, a rather large stone (probably a long ago relic left behind during the ice age) that was remarkably suited for sitting offered me a perfect place to enjoy lunch, wash it down with some icy cold water as it made its way down from the mountains that surround our area.
I tamped down the snow around the boulder...had decided it was far to big to be called just a stone.  Carefully laid my camera and other gear in a safe dry place, cupped my hands and had a generous drink of the icy water, reached into my pocket for my Isalean Bar...it was not in the pocket I had put it in.  Assuming I had mistaken which pocket in which it had been placed, I began methodically checking all my other pockets of which there were many.    Alas, the search over and complete, a sad realization took hold...somewhere along the way in all my trapsing here and there, my beloved Isalean Bar had slipped out of my pocket, was gone!

Now I know what you are thinking..."Sherwood, its just an Isalean Bar, you can get another."
No, you don't understand...this was not just another Isalean Bar, it was my favorite Isalean Bar, a Chocolate Cream Crisp Isalean Bar, the finest in the land, a delicious low glycemic meal alternative beyond compare!  With tears in my eyes I realized my Chocolate Cream Crisp Isalean Bar was gone, even worse, LOST, alone somewhere in the woods, abandoned and left to fend for itself.  How could I have been so careless?  MY GOD, what had I done...a poor, defenseless yet delicious Chocolate Cream Crisp Isalean Bar laying there, out in the woods, exposed and alone!
Gathering my gear, a bit desolate...AND HUNGRY, I carried on, completed my half hike...I had to, it was a duty bestowed upon me, but throughout the rest of my great adventure, my Isalean Bar was never far from my thoughts, my pangs of hunger a constant reminder of my carelessness.  As the crescent moon hoovers in the cloudy night sky above I find myself worried about that poor bar, wondering if it will be all right, if it will get its chance to fulfill its own destiny of bringing a taste delight to the lips of some fortunate soul, providing them with a nourishing meal in the shape of a bar?
So if you find my beloved Isalean Bar, tear apart the protective water proof foil pack and enjoy your reward.

The ViSalus Healthy Shake...Is It Really ALL THAT HEALTHY?

I made a comment on Twitter wherein I stated a couple of basic truths in comparing our 100 percent natural Isalean Shakes to the ViSalus Shake.

1.  Our shake is a nutritionally balanced 240 Calorie meal, packed with premium nutrition that includes a balanced ratio of high-quality protein, healthy fats and energy-boosting carbohydrates, IsaLean Shakes support weight loss and an increase in lean body mass. IsaLean Shakes contain no artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners or preservatives.  The Visalus Shake as a stand alone nutritional supplement is not a meal at only 90 calories.

2.  Our shake mixed with water tastes great...the Visalus shake requires the addition of eight ounces of milk, does not mix well with water, which instantly makes it a no go product for those who are lactose intolerant.

Today on Twitter, a Visalus rep took exception to my Tweet and posted this to me:
@theisaguru once you add your milk an  d use one of our recipes you have 250-300 healthy clean calories! do your research!
Let's not let it be said that I do not do my research.  I went right to the source, and started looking at some of the Visalus recipes that create these so called HEALTHY CLEAN CALORIES.

8-10 Ounces of Low Fat Skim Milk...32 percent of your daily calcium for the day.   Right at 100 calories for 10 ounces.  (Purchase price of milk not included in ViSalus pricing structure.)

2 Scoops of ViSalus Shake mixture.

1-2 Tablespoons of Oreo Pudding mix.  80 Calories (give or take).  This is a processed food full of various toxins used as preservatives.  Hello, we are supposed to be detoxing our bodies, not contaminating them.  Almost no vitamins...see for yourself here.  (Purchase price of pudding mix not  not included in ViSalus pricing structure.)

A drop or two of mint extract.   (Purchase price of mint extract not included in ViSalus pricing structure.)

1 Tablespoon of Cocoa   (Purchase price of Cocoa not included in ViSalus pricing structure.)

This is just one recipe, and it seems to come in at about 270 Calories (30 more than our Isalean shakes), and you are required to go out and purchase 4 industrialized  processed food products for this recipe.  How often are you going to want to have this particular shake recipe in a week, in a month?

Our Isalean Chocolate or Vanilla shakes...two scopes of product, some water, a few ice cubes, blend and enjoy.  Additional outside sourced grocery items for our meal in a shake...ZERO with no extra added costs to create our shake.  Visalus shakes rely on processed foods to complete their recipes, our shakes are all inclusive, and made from all natural healthy ingredients.

When you compare apples to apples, Isagenix Isalean shakes are hands down the best and most nutritional meal replacement shakes out there.

Some other PROCESSED industrial foods that ViSalus recipes call for include Jello Cheese Cake mix (puddings include gelatin...gelatin is made using animal hoofs, hides, and intestines), pretzels, concentrated Orange Juice, PROCESSED Apple Sauce, PROCESSED Graham Crackers, CONCENTRATED Cranberry Juice, Instant Coffee (contains the Category 2 Carcinogenix acrylamide...YUMMY)

So, if you are an athlete, a triathlete looking to build lean muscle, increase energy, improve performance, if you are someone wanting to improve your health and lose weight, you are encourage to do a fair comparison of Isagenix and ViSalus, and if you do, I am certain you will choose Isagenix, the healthy SUPERFOOD CHOICE.

Should Santa Claus Be On Isagenix and In Isagenix Body Challenge?

Santa Needs a Energy BOOST
Jolly old St. Nicklaus, or Santa Claus is a merry old soul with a bag full of goodies and toys.  You have to love Santa's sleigh and eight reindeer, not to mention perhaps tens of thousands of elves working tirelessly all year long for Christmas Eve...talk about a major potential down line, and that does not count those lists he has been making now for how many decades?  Can you imagine how fast he could go executive...some of those elves are pretty plumb themselves.

All this aside, lets face it...Santa has a serious weight problem...guessing here from some of the Christmas Cards, postcards and pictures I have seen, this Saint has to be tipping the scale at 350 maybe even 400 pounds.  All those cookies, cakes and glasses of milk, and guessing he might have some other health issues as well.  I can so see him as a member of the Isagenix 100 Pound club speaking at the NYKO event!  How cool would that be?  Santa trotting out onto the stage with his eight reindeer weighing maybe 220 pounds and talking to everyone about just how much he enjoys his morning and afternoon IsaLean shakes...what a testimonial that would be.

Might be wrong here, but guessing dear old Saint Nick would be a shoe in to win the Isagenix Body Challenge once he was dedicated to being a product of the product.   Who could resist a jolly old man with rosy cheeks, twinkling eyes, a great head of hair, and that laugh which is so contagious!  Can't you see him coming out onto stage followed by his eight reindeer, his sleigh full of wonderful Isagenix goodies and treats for everyone in the audience?  The standing room only crowd chanting, "SANTA, SANTA, SANTA".

One thing is for sure...Right or left, I would want Santa in my down line!
